The Kings Road is a location long associated with the rich and famous. Balanced with beauty and tranquility in equal measure, it’s a road iconic for high fashion and famous eateries. In the recent years however, a new movement has been creeping onto the scene. More and more women every day are discovering fit fashion, and incorporating it into their everyday lifestyle, and beginning their journey to living their best active life.
The active lifestyle is flourishing on Kings Road, with almost every month welcoming another health and wellness business to the road. As you may know, The Active in Style concept store first opened it’s doors on the Kings Road in November 2015, and we’d like to give you the low down on the transformation we’ve seen while delivering the best in fit fashion to the women of London.
The Active in Style Concept Store
The Active in Style concept store is currently located at 199 King’s Road, and later this year we will be moving closer to Sloane Square, at 122 Kings Road (right next door to the fight-club-meets-night-club, KOBOX). For over 3 years now, we have been curating our collections of stylish activewear to the fit and fearless women of the UK online, and more recently direct here in London with our store.
It wasn’t so long ago we shared our love affair for Australian activewear, when we brought over the iconic female Aussie brand, Lorna Jane, to the UK in 2013. Selling at trunk shows and studios across the London fit scene, we quickly found more and more women were realising you can look fashionable while you sweat. Fast forward to today, and we currently stock over 30 athleisure brands, from smaller boutique yoga labels like Onzie and Nimble to high-performance athletic brands like HPE and Jaggad.
While we are all about the activewear (who isn’t in this day and age?!), we are also big believers in living and breathing an active lifestyle. We kick started our #RUNChelsea run club a few months ago as a way to combine our love for activewear with our love for meeting new people in an active environment. Every other week, we bring together all our fit friends to chat, break a sweat, and of course have delicious snacks and refreshments post-run. Sounds fun, right? Also, should you wish to visit our King’s Road store, you can also get involved in our Style X Change clothing swap programme, where you can bring in your pre-loved activewear in exchange for store credit to put towards newer styles (while giving back to other women). You can read more about the Style X Change on our blog, or come chat to us instore.
Others leading the crusade in fashionable activewear
The other retailers on the King’s Road also give good reason for the location to be the active lifestyle hub of the UK. Nike built their only European Women’s store on the Kings Road, alongside Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, and the soon to be opened Live (direct from Brazil), all providing a wide range of activewear styles.
The best places to get your sweat on
With great activewear comes great fitness opportunities
Our soon-to-be neighbours are creating quite a stir in the fitness scene, from Active in Style girl Zanna Van Dijk, to super star Cheryl Cole, all punching in to sweat it out on the bags. KOBOX has created a unique workout like no other in the UK, combining a seriously tough boxing routine and cardio circuits, all with a great nightclub soundtrack to keep you in #beastmode. With the workouts proving to be hugely popular, you’d better book in quick as classes fill up fast. It’s a total knock-out!
Barrecore combines ballet, pilates and yoga in a strength/cardio infused workout (ouchies). Designed to integrate the fat-burning format of interval training with static stretches it works all major and smaller muscles in a completely unique way. Each 60-minute workout targets the major muscle groups and improves posture and alignment no matter your fitness level, you will feel like a serious prima ballerina after a few of these classes. Hello ballet-bod!
Heartcore is a dynamic studio which features 55 minute HIIT, pilates and barre workouts where you can expect to improve both strength and stamina. With so many options, from Dynamic Pilates to Mum + Baby classes, suitable to any fitness levels, their studio features state-of-the-art equipment designed to inspire you to get a sweat on.
Slightly off the beaten track (one street over on Fulham Road), Lomax is more a personalised fitness studio. Providing bespoke tuition on all services including pilates, boxing, barre and spin, it is designed to motivate you to move in a completely new way. You very own Mr Miyagi is waiting for you. Sweat on…Sweat off….
With the wellness industry finding so many benefits in mentally-focused exercises, yoga provides a workout for the mind and body, from increasing flexibility and strength, to finding peace within the chaos of life. The beautiful, open studios at Triyoga certainly give a feeling of tranquility, and believe yoga is for everyone – hence their saying ‘everyone triyoga’!
Fuel your day
Every meal is the most important meal of the day…
Pre-class or post-sweat, it’s important to refuel correctly. As the Kings Road continues to boost an array of highly acclaimed active lifestyle opportunities for all, one thing the Kings Road is known for is it’s large selection of great restaurants, juice bars and snack hangouts. Here’s our pick of the bunch.
The Juice Baby Philosophy is simple. Little by little. They feel it’s the small changes you can make every day which make a big difference to the bigger picture in the long run. They switch dairy for nut milk, sweeteners and sugar for natural sources, and acidic, hot brewed coffee for fresh, cold brew, all in an aim to make your unhealthy cravings go away so you can max out on delicious nutrients. There’s a Juice baby in all of us.
This London-born-and-bread juice company wants you to swap your soft drinks for some cold pressed kale, embrace your brassicas, and discover health is not hard. Their juices may be cold pressed (and served in glass bottles), but their cafes are welcoming, cosy and warm. Team this with their nourishing choice of meals and snacks and well-informed staff, and you might find it hard to leave.
WHO LOVES YOU
A solid brunch location in our opinion. With a mission to ‘nourish every mind and every body’, their menu is designed to cater to all dietary requirements, from lactose intolerant to gluten free, using organic locally sourced products, making you feel your very best by eating responsibly and healthily. What #lovestyle do you lead?
Slightly off the Kings Road, if you’re looking for somewhere where you can de-stress and re-charge, C Press on Fulham Road is the place. A regular hangout of the AiS team, they offer a great range of cold pressed juices and organic coffee, as well as some amazing healthy snacks (note: their energy balls are the bomb).
THE GOOD LIFE EATERY
The clue is in the name. The Good Life Eatery aim to be a part of your everyday life, with fresh healthy food which can be made to take away, or delivered right to your door (or work!). Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or dairy free, you can eat right at Good Life. Also, anybody who lives by the motto ‘keep it freshhhhh’ is a winner in our books.
THE GRILL MARKET
Locally sourced fast, fresh food for the soul, we honestly believe they do the best burritos in town. With a menu featuring superfood loaded salads, sizzling grill ingredients and steaming specials, it’s totally worth the stroll to visit them on Fulham Road (they also do delivery #justsayin).
Find your way there
So there you have it… a perfect round up of the who’s who of the Kings Road fit scene. Now you can certainly make a day of it when you head to SW3. You have all your active needs and can enjoy the very best on offer.
